Movie Details

ChaariKaandha (Odia: ଚାରିକାନ୍ଧ) is an Indian Odia-language mid-length film released theatrically on 27 February 2026. The film is directed and written by Biswanath Rath and explores themes of ageing, loneliness, and social responsibility through a blend of comedy and drama. With a runtime of 36 minutes, it is among the earliest Odia mid-length films to receive a theatrical release and festival circulation.

Plot

Baidyanath Mishra, a technologically adept and progressive elderly man, lives alone in his apartment complex. His son is settled in the United States, while his daily life is supported by Lakshmi, a domestic helper. Though accompanied by his close friend Ramakant, Baidyanath is troubled by a persistent existential question – whether there will be “four shoulders” to carry him to the cremation ground after his death.
The narrative examines urban isolation, ageing in modern society, and the erosion of community bonds, using understated humour and social commentary.
