Rajendra Mohanta has emerged as a distinguished director in Odia cinema over the past few years. He has made a mark in various mediums such as music videos, web serials, tele-movies, and Odia films.
Starting off as an assistant director in films like ‘Sanju Au Sanjana’, ‘Loafer’, and ‘Mu Premi Mu Pagala’, Rajendra honed his skills under the guidance of directors like Ashok Pati and Sudhanshu Mohan Sahoo. He then assisted director Sushant Mani on projects like ‘Luchkali’, ‘Most Wanted’, and ‘Hello… in Love’.
His directorial debut came with the film ‘Adrushyam’, starring Sanu and Ankita Mishra. Subsequently, he began work on another film titled ‘Whistle’, featuring actors like Sanu, Anuradha Manigarahi, and Bulu in prominent roles.
Rajendra Mohanta gained immense popularity for his work on ‘Chakhyubandhan’ produced by Tapan Kumar Dash, winning the ‘Tarang Cine Award’ for Best Director. His mystery thriller Odia movie featured Raj Rajesh, Rishi, and Bhumika Dash. He received the award from his mentor Ashok Pati. His latest movie, ‘Nirnaya (2024)‘, has been released this year.
Originally from Jashipur in Mayurbhanj district, Rajendra has been residing in Sukinda, Jajpur for several years. He is currently working on the film ‘The Millet Diary’, starring Sidhant, Abhishek Panda, Shivani, Deepanwita, Pinky Pradhan, Santu, and Sushant in lead roles. Additionally, he is directing a new Odia movie with Amlan as the lead. Another project of his, ‘Jhure Jharana’, featuring late actress Jharana Das, Baishali, and Chinmay Das Patnaik, was never released.
In addition to his work in Odia cinema, he has also directed web series such as ‘Chhadapatra (2023)‘ and tele-movies like ‘Rasagola Kahar? (2024)‘. He has also directed several music videos. Renowned in the Odia film industry as Raja, Rajendra expresses a desire to explore diverse storytelling in various genres.
