Samuel Sahu

Samuel Sahu was born into a conservative Christian family on 22 March 1918. His parents died in childhood and he was raised by his aunt Minika Sahu. While studying at the mission school, he played the role of a monkey in a play called ‘Mankada’. This is where his acting career began. After matriculation from Mission School, he obtained his diploma from Odisha School of Engineering. After completing his diploma in engineering, Samuel started working as an engineer in Chakradharpur, Bihar. By the time of World War II, he left his job and returned to his native Odisha. In Odisha, he joined various theater groups and started acting. In 1940, Kalicharan Patnaik started a theater company called Odisha Theatres, and Samuel joined this company and acted in many plays. Samuel Babu joined ‘Annapurna B’ in 1945 and was associated with this theater for almost three decades. He has acted in more than 150 plays and directed more than 2000 plays in his theater career. In 1949, he stepped into the world of Odia films through Sri Jagannath. He played the character of Galamadhab in the film Sri Jagannath. He has acted in more than 20 films.
