Overview:

Sarala Das did not receive a formal education in his early years, and any knowledge he acquired through self-study was credited to the blessings of Sarala, the goddess of devotion and inspiration. Initially known as Siddheswara Parida, he later came to be called Sarala Dasa, meaning ‘by the grace of Sarala’. Born into a Shudra family in Kalinga, Tentulipada, Jagatsinghpur district, Siddeshwar Pradhan did not engage in any work since childhood, leading to constant dissatisfaction from his wife. One day, following an argument with his wife, Siddeshwar left home and sat alone, lamenting and singing. It was during this moment that Goddess Maa Sarala heard his songs, and bestowed upon him the ability to compose beautiful poems.
