Sree Jagannath was released in 1950. The story was based on ‘Deula Tola’ (temple making) by Balaram Das, one of the Panchasakhas from medieval Odisha, dramatist Ashwin Kumar Ghosh’s Bengali drama ‘Purir Mandir’ and its Odia version ‘Sri Mandira’ respectively.

These renditions remain timeless classics.
Nari, directed by Trilochan (Narendra Mitra, Kabichandra Kalicharan Patnaik, Shiba Bhattacharya), received Certicate of Merit in National Film Award as 2nd Best Regional Film (Odia). This is the first & last film of Kabichandra Kalicharan Patnaik as an actor. Also producer Narendra Mitra acted in a small role.

Shree Loknath, produced by Ruprang, is based on the story by Ashwini Kumar Ghosh. This film won National Film Awards in 1960, the first Odia film to achieve the feat.
Kedar Gouri marks the debut of an Odia director in the Odia film industry, with Manoranjan Das co-directing the movie alongside Nitai Palit.

Kanaklata was an adaptation of the novel by Pallikabi Nanda Kishore Bal by the same name. The script was written by Dr. Basanta Mohapatra. Budha Maharana, the well known Art Dirtector of Odia Movies started his carrer with Kanaklata. The poetry of well known poets of Odisha was used for the songs. They included Atibadi Jagannath Das, Santha Jasobanta Das, Gangadhar Meher, Abhimanyu Samantasinghar, Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, Ramakrushna Nanda. Without going to any studio, both the indoor & outdoor shooting of the movie was done on the location. Almost half of the scenes were shot at residence of zamindar of Bheda, Gopabandhu Choudhury and at Bahugram, Cuttack. The movie was premiered at Grand Cinema on 14.6.1974 and released at Hind and Capital Cinema, Cuttack. Kanaklata was successful and is considered as a ‘Classic’.

Plot:
The plot centres around a pair of lovers: Dhananjay and Kanaklata whose love-at-first-sight culminates in marriage after overcoming the hurdle of dowry dispute, Rajendra and a child-widow named Uma whose passion and love for each other remain unfulfilled with Uma’s death and Rajendra renouncing the world and turning into a sanyasi. The plot is in fact an indictment of the evils of dowry system in rural aristocratic society and the predicament of the child-widows who were condemned into a life of anguish and suffering.
