Note:
Debimatha Pictures, a production house based in Brahmapur, adapted the storyline of a Telugu film to create the Odia movie Kulachandrama. The original story was written by Dasari Narayan Rao, while the Odia version was directed by K.H.D. Rao. Directional support was provided by J.B.K. Choudhury, P. Bhaskar Reddy, and Brundaban Jena, with Brundaban Jena also contributing the dialogues and lyrics.
Filming took place in Hyderabad, with outdoor equipment sourced from Sharada Enterprises and Pratap Art Pictures of Madras. Post-production work was completed at Sarathi Studios Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad.
Despite the production effort, the film failed to connect with Odia audiences. The adapted storyline lacked alignment with Odia culture and traditions, and the title Kulachandrama was considered mismatched with the film’s content. A deeper cultural adaptation, beyond mere translation, was needed to make the story relatable to the Odia audience. Although the film was not commercially successful, it contributed to increasing the count of Odia film releases in 1978.
