Mana Akasha was adapted to screenplay with some modifications by Nityananda Palit. The movie was produced by Sri Rahas Bihari Mishra of Sambalpur who wanted to establish his son Shanti Swaroop Mishra as an actor. The music composition was entrusted to Upendra Kumar (T. Upendra Rao) which was his debut Odia movie. The Songs were composed at Sambalpur over a period of ten days and was recorded at Gemini Studio, Madras in April 1971. The shooting of movie started almost a year after the recording of the songs. The movie faced a number of problems relating to its actors & technicians. The female lead of the movie Soudamini Dasgupta was replaced mid-way and a leading lady was scouted to replace her. Cinematographer Dinen Gupta was replaced with Krishna Chakraborty. Noted cine artiste Debu Bose started his career in the movie with a role in the dance sequence of ‘Gori Kanian, Suna Panian’ song. The choreographer of the movie was Gopikrushna Behera of Banki. Mana Akasha was released on 18 December 1974 at Prabhat & Hind cinemas in Cuttack. The movie was a huge success. Nitai Palit won the State award of Best Director, while Prashant Nanda won the Award for Best Actor and Sujata Anand as Best Actress.

Plot:
Sashank Patnaik and Rudra Choudhury are close friends. Rudra’s son Bhanu develops love relationship with Sashank’s daughter Mala. After demise of Rudra, Sashank tries to acquire the properties of Rudra. In spite of knowing Mala is pregnant and Bhanu is her lover, Rudra tries to kill Bhanu by giving poison to be the owner of the whole property. But later on Sashank realizes his mistake helps unite Bhanu and Mala.
