Samarpana holds the distinction of being the first Odia film produced in Bhawanipatna. A group of local art enthusiasts came together to establish Manikeshwari Productions Pvt. Ltd., with the vision of creating this film. The founding members included Abhay Charan Mohapatra, Jagannath Mishra, Girish Purohit, Bhupinder Singh, Manoranjan Pattnaik, Prabhakar Mishra, and Rasbihari Panda.
The film was shot in and around Bhawanipatna, as well as at the scenic locales of Nrusinghnath and Harishankar. All the partners were actively involved in the production process. The total budget for the project was Rs. 1,42,500. Post-production work was carried out at a film laboratory in Madras, where the songs were also recorded. Two tracks from the film, “Indradhantu Ra Sapta Ranga Sabu Ta Jaichi Libhi” and “Samira Sure Gaye Ae Jharana Jhare”, gained significant popularity.
Samarpana was completed in just eight months and premiered at Satyam Talkies, Bhawanipatna on 21 April 1978, followed by a release at Grand Cinema, Cuttack on 23 April 1978. Despite its creative effort and local significance, the film did not achieve commercial success.
