Biography

Dhira Biswal was born in Cuttack in 1929. His acting skills came to light while studying in Ravenshaw College. He became so popular after playing the role of Kansa that his friends called him Kansa. He was elected as the Dramatic Secretary at Ravenshaw College and later at Madhusudan Law College. He started his career as an employee in Odisha Secretariat. Later he quit his job and studied law at Madhusudan Law College. After completing his LLB degree, he started practicing as an advocate in the Odisha High Court. But due to his intrest in acting, he devoted more time in films.

Career in Films

Kedar Gouri’ was Dhira Biswal’s first film. He was noticed for his role of anti-hero ‘Rahu’ in the film. Mahalaxmi Puja, Dasyu Ratnakar, Parinam, Heera Moti Manika, Dharitri, Kie Kahara, Nabajanma, Ramayana are some of his successful films as an actor. He started his own production company, Panchsakha Pictures in 1962. Nua Bou was first film produced under Panchasakha Pictures which was big hit. He was involved in the production of about 50 Odia films.
