Note:
‘Taapoi’ was inspired by the popular Odia festival Khudurukuni Osha, which is devotedly observed by young girls across Odisha. The book recited during the festival, penned by Gopinath Das, forms the basis of the story. The film also marks the directorial debut of Sarat Pujari. Kshyanaprabha Sarangi who was studying in 9th grade at Ravenshaw Collegiate School at that time selected to play the title role of Taapoi. Theatre artist Kunjalata Das from the renowned Annapurna ‘A’ Group portrayed the antagonist – a widowed Brahmin woman. Taapoi was both critically acclaimed and a commercial success.
