From an early age, Byomakesh was drawn to the theatre and the movies. His training in theatre began while he was an adolescent at the renowned Puri district cultural hub known as the Uttarayani Club of Jatni. As Byomakesh’s first Guru, Ramachandra Mania was a well-known actor. Later, prominent theatre figures like Balai Banerjee, Ashwini Ghose, and Kartik Chandra Ghose took note of his skill and made an effort to teach him various acting techniques.

Byomakesh Tripathy, known as Satyajit Ray of Odisha, had directed almost 68 plays and also acted in many of these. He had also ventured into the film industry and acted in a few Odia films besides giving direction in some.
